# DisplayDNA identity · beta 1

Working identity selected October 27, 2026. The three directions are editable SVG; selection can be changed without rebuilding the product architecture.

## Selected: Signal fingerprint

A rounded display frame holds three staggered signal traces. The frame establishes the display category immediately; the traces suggest a distinct profile and echo the app’s original three-bar mark. It stays legible at favicon size and reads as a research instrument rather than a surveillance product.

Alternatives:

- **Twin profiles**: two overlapping display records communicate comparison and baseline changes. Useful as an illustration, but more detail at small sizes.
- **Pixel helix**: a geometric DNA reference with a pixel at its center. Memorable, but less immediately associated with display diagnostics.

See `index.html` for the identity board and side-by-side options.

## Colors

| Token | Hex | Use |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Forest | `#174E3D` | Primary logo, navigation, primary actions, app icon |
| Signal lime | `#C8E89E` | Selected traces, restrained highlights, beta badge |
| Warm paper | `#F5F7F2` | Main canvas and light backgrounds |
| Ink | `#152C25` | Text and high-contrast wordmark |
| Muted sage | `#61766B` | Supporting text; verify contrast at final size |
| Line | `#DCE5DA` | Dividers and profile structure |

Use forest or ink for body text. Lime is an accent or background, not small text on white. The mark also works in one color.

## Typography

Product/site interface: `-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif`. No font download is required. Data labels can use `ui-monospace, SFMono-Regular, Consolas, monospace`.

The editable SVG wordmark uses Arial/Helvetica as widely available system fallbacks. The logotype deliberately changes weight between **Display** and **DNA**. For exact cross-machine typographic reproduction, use the exported PNG lockup or convert the included text to outlines in a vector editor; the mark itself is path/shape based and does not depend on a font.

## Logo use

- Preferred: forest mark + ink wordmark on warm paper or white (`logo.svg`).
- Dark backgrounds: lime mark + paper wordmark (`logo-dark.svg`).
- App icon: rounded forest square, paper display frame and lime traces (`app-icon.svg`).
- Minimum mark: 16 px. Preferred full lockup: at least 155 px wide.
- Clear space: at least one trace width at tiny sizes; for normal use, one quarter of the 64-unit mark (16 units) on every side.
- Preserve the SVG aspect ratio; never stretch, rotate, add drop shadows, outline the wordmark, or substitute decorative colors.
- The app icon’s rounded square is part of that asset; the standalone mark remains transparent.

## Voice and labels

Precise, calm and evidence-led. Prefer “OS-exposed profile”, “baseline change”, “indirect indicator”, “unavailable telemetry” and “review the evidence”. Never imply that EDID establishes recording hardware, identifies misconduct, or proves capture is absent.

Use **DisplayDNA** as one word with this capitalization. Tagline: **Know your displays. See what changes.** Category line: **Local display diagnostics.**

Always accompany early releases with **Beta · active development**. Make release availability and testing coverage explicit. A beta label does not replace accurate platform and permission information.
